TRINIDAD TOBAGO: PT FORTIN MAN TO HANG FOR MURDER

Jay Chandler, of Point Fortin, was sentenced to death by hanging by Justice Mark Mohammed of the Second Criminal Court in the Port-of-Spain Assizes. Chandler allegedly fatally stabbed fellow inmate Kern Phillip in the chest on October 8, 2004, at the Remand Yard Prison, Golden Grove, Arouca. This was Chandler’s second trial for Phillip’s murder in the High Court after a retrial was ordered on April 2, 2009, when a previous 12-member jury had been unable to reach a decision.
