True Path Party (DYP) leader Tansu Ciller has said that she received Danish and Spanish ambassadors today and "they said that Turkey has to use its time very well today. The EU is a civilization project. They said that Turkey would make great progress if it resolves all the other issues, even if it leaves the death sentence issue to be dealt with later in the future. This is the DYP's thesis and I told Parliament Speaker Omer Izgi about it. Izgi said as Ciller has stated, even if the death sentence issue is solved immediately, the door of the EU is not opening. "Turkish government, people and the parliament have accepted that death sentence is a primitive system of execution. We have promised to lift it as a project. If we do not execute death penalty by thinking that we will lift it, I did not find sincere words told by a person before the announcement of the verdict of the European Court of Human Rights that 'death sentence should be lifted immediately'," Izgi added.
