Two poultry workers found guilty of murdering their employer were saved from lethal injection when the Supreme Court modified their respective sentences.
In a decision penned by Associate Justice Santiago Kapunan, the tribunal commuted the sentence on Roberto Cabillan to life imprisonment while that on Melvin Garcia was commuted to 15 years.
Judge Feliciano Buenaventura of the regional trial court in Cabanatuan City had found Cabillan and Garcia guilty of killing Jose Sta. Romana Sarmenta in his poultry farm in Barangay Macatbong on August 21, 1996.
