Two villagers from Chavuma were sentenced to death for murder. In Solwezi Judge William Lewis sentenced Bubble Kamwanga, 24, of Mweze and Happy Wamunyima, 22, of Chitaho for murdering a woman, Nyakamwandi Kanyambi on September 12, 1998. They had denied the charge but the court convicted them after a trial. The two, along with several unknown accomplices attacked the deceased's village, Kachidza, setting the woman's hut on fire. When she attempted to run away from the fire, the duo pushed her back inside the house where she was burnt to death.
