An appeal court in Ras Al Khaimah reduced a death sentence to life in prison against an Asian man convicted of smuggling drugs into the UAE.
The defendant was sentenced to death in August after police seized him with around eight kg of hashish. He confessed to have smuggled the narcotics into the Northern Emirate with the help of friends.
Newspapers said the appeal court reduced the death sentence after the panel of judges failed to reach consensus.
