UAE: HOUSEMAID SENTENCED TO DEATH RETURNS HOME

Sri Lankan housemaid Abdul Kareem Kanzul Maharifa, 38, who was sentenced to death in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, returned home after she was pardoned, the Sri Lankan Embassy in Abu Dhabi said. Maharifa was arrested on April 30, 2006, for murdering her sponsor's wife by repeatedly hitting her on the head and face with an ornamental pot. The Sharia Court imposed capital punishment in 2006.
