Uganda and Kenya prison authorities supported the abolition of the death penalty, contrary to judicial officers who insist it should stay. Officials said the human rights campaign to abolish the death penalty is one way of enhancing the administration of prisoners. "It is traumatising for us to lead the people we have stayed with for years to the hangman's noose," Dr Johnson Byabashaija, the Commissioner General of Uganda Prisons, said.
