UK. 'LORILEI – A MEDITATION ON LOSS'

after a sell out run in Australia, Reprieve (in association with Theatre Tarquin) will be hosting 'Lorilei – A meditation on loss', a powerful and moving piece of theatre that looks at the subject of the death penalty from the perspective of the victim’s family. The performance is also supported by Hands off Cain. 
Lorilei will be hosted at the Old Red Lion Theatre in London from 15 February to 5 March 2005.  The play is a short monodrama based upon the experiences of Lorilei Guillory, mother of 6-year-old Jeremy Guillory who was murdered by Ricky Langley in February 1992.  Ricky was sentenced to death for the crime in 1992.  After meeting Ricky Langley in prison, Lorilei gave evidence asking that her son’s killer be spared the death penalty. 
The play looks at how Lorilei came to this decision, in the process challenging the assumption that the only path to “closure” for the victim’s family is the death of the murderer.  Guest speakers, including Reprieve’s founder and human rights lawyer Clive Stafford Smith, will be appearing after some performances.
