UKRAINE ALIGNS WITH EU CALL ON DEATH PENALTY

Ukraine aligned itself with a statement in which the European Union reiterates its call on the countries that still maintain the death penalty to work towards abolishing it. "On the occasion of the fifth World Day against the Death Penalty, the European Union reiterates its longstanding position against the death penalty in all circumstances," the statement says. The European Union, along with Ukraine, says that abolition of the death penalty contributes to enhancement of human dignity and progressive development of human rights." Ukraine has aligned itself with European Union declarations that are fully in line with its own foreign policy since late May 2005.
