U.S. District Judge Catherine C. Blake in Baltimore overturned the death penalty of John Booth-El, convicted of killing an elderly couple in Baltimore in 1983. In the ruling, Blake said that jurors in Booth-El's case should have been allowed to take into account that he was drunk when he stabbed his victims. The case was sent back to Circuit Court for a new sentencing hearing.
