Andrew Lackey, 29, White, was executed for the Oct. 31 2005 murder of Charles Newman (80) during an attempted robbery at Newman’s home. Lackey admitted to the crime. He was sentenced to death in Limestone County in March 2008. Lackey had dropped all appeals and asked for his execution to be scheduled. Lackey becomes the 1st condemned inmate to be put to death this year in Alabama and the 56th overall since the state resumed capital punishment in 1983. Lackey becomes the 21st condemned inmate to be put to death this year in the USA and the 1341st overall since the nation resumed executions on January 17, 1977.
