A Madison County jury on Friday sentenced LaJeromeny Brown, now 45, Black, to death. The man admitted to shooting and killing an on-duty police officer, Billy Clardy, 48, on Dec. 6, 2019, during an undercover drug operation in which Brown believed he was selling 100 pounds of marijuana to customers he didn’t realize were part of a drug task force.
It was not immediately clear how the vote broke down but at least 10 jurors had to vote for the death penalty.
