The Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals overturned the capital murder conviction and death sentence of Carlos Kennedy, 29, Black. The Court ruled that a judge should have let Kennedy represent himself during his trial. Mobile County Judge Rusty Johnston initially let Kennedy act has his own lawyer, but reversed himself before the case went to trial. Kennedy was convicted in May 2013.
