USA - Arizona. Judge Richard Nichols formally sentenced Scott Nordstrom to die

Judge Richard Nichols of Pima County Superior Court formally sentenced Scott Nordstrom to die for 2 slayings in the summer of 1996 and imposed four no-parole life sentences for 4 other fatal shootings. Nordstrom was sentenced to death in 1996, but the U.S. Supreme Court decided in June 2002 that juries, not judges, should render the sentence in capital cases. Nordstrom, 41, white, was granted a new sentencing hearing. But another Pima County Superior Court jury decided on August 27 (see) that he should be executed for the May 30, 1996 slayings of Thomas Hardman, 26, and Carol Lynn Noel, 50. Codefendant Robert G. Jones Jr., 40, white, killed Arthur Bell, 54, Judy Bell, 46, Maribeth Munn, 53, and Clarence Odell III, 47, on June 13, 1996. The 6 victims were killed during separate robberies 2 weeks apart. Both men were convicted on 6 counts of 1st-degree murder and Jones' Dec. 7, 1998 death sentence has already been upheld.
