The Arizona Supreme Court has overturned Sherman Lee Rutledge's death sentence in the May 1997 murder of Ryan Harris. The Supreme Court on April 7 unanimously upheld Rutledge's convictions for first-degree murder. The Supreme Court reviewed Rutledge's death sentence under the 2002 U.S. Supreme Court ruling saying that juries, not judges must decide whether circumstances exist that could warrant a death sentence.
