A Contra Costa County jury sentenced Edward Wycoff to death. Wycoff admitted he had killed his sister, Julie Wycoff Rogers, 47, and her husband, Paul Rogers, 48, on Jan. 31, 2006. The jury's decision came in spite of testimony by the couple's eldest son, Eric Rogers, 21, who said that his uncle should be spared because he was too "mentally childish" to be executed. Wycoff asked to be formally sentenced Dec. 8 - his 41st birthday - by Superior Court Judge John Kennedy. The judge must first consider an automatic appeal for the punishment to be reduced to life in prison.
