USA - California. Judge John W. DeGroot today imposed the death sentence on Jose Guerrero

Madera Superior Court Judge John W. DeGroot today imposed the death sentence on Jose Guerrero. A Madera County jury voted unanimously April 22 (see) to send Guerrero to death row. Guerrero was found guilty of killing Tamara Hernandez, 22, in November 1998. He also murdered Julia Woodley, a 41-year-old mother who was shot in the heart in April 1995, and Sharlene Fowler, a 30-year-old woman who was strangled in July 1998. Guerrero also tried to kill Evelyn Estrada, now 55, in November 1995. Guerrero was linked to the murders by DNA while serving time for felony DUI.
