November 17, 2023 - Judge Michael Sweet has sentenced Salvador Vasquez-Oliva to death
For killing his family of 4.
Salvador Vasquez-Oliva, 62, Hispanic, was convicted on May 1 the March 2017 slayings of his wife, 45-year-old Angelique Vasquez, their two children, 14-year-old Mia and 11-year-old Alvin Vasquez, and his niece, 21-year-old Ashley Coleman.
Vasquez-Oliva was arrested hours after the bodies were found.
On May 12, the Sacramento County jury recommended he face the death penalty.
A moratorium on the death penalty is in effect in California. Gov. Gavin Newsom in 2019 signed an executive order for the moratorium and to close the execution chamber at San Quentin State Prison.
