Kings County Judge Peter L. Spinetta formally sentenced Robert Galvan, 37, to death. Galvan was immediately taken to death row at San Quentin State Prison. On March 14, a jury found Galvan guilty of 1st-degree murder in the death of his cell mate, Robert Johnson, 28, on Sept. 16, 2010 at Corcoran State Prison, and decided unanimously for the death penalty. Galvan was in Corcoran serving four consecutive life terms. Two were for a 1999 kidnapping and robbery. While in the Fresno County jail, Galvan attacked a correctional officer, for which he got his 3rd life sentence. The 4th was for assaulting an inmate with a weapon at Salinas Valley State Prison.
