Robert James Acremant 's death sentence was reduced to life in prison without the possibility of parole because he was diagnosed as mentally ill. He was sentenced to death in 1997 for the Dec. 4, 1995 slaying of Roxanne Ellis, 53, and Michelle Abdill, 42. Acremant has complained for years that he hears voices and says he has a transmitter in his head so others can control him. Jackson County District Attorney Mark Huddleston and Acremant's defense team filed a judgment today in Jackson County Circuit Court that commuted Acremant's sentencing.
