Judge. T. Henley Graves imposed the death sentence on Derrick Powell, 24, black, for the September 2009 murder of patrolman Chad Spicer during a pursuit. A Sussex County jury had recommended 7-5 the death sentence on Feb. 23, 2010 (see). The state's last execution was a 2005 lethal injection.
