USA - Florida. A jury sentenced Timothy Wayne Fletcher, 28, white, to death

A St. Johns County jury sentenced Timothy Wayne Fletcher, 28, white, to death for choking his step-grandmother after a jailbreak, a jury says. The jury voted 8-4 in favor of the death penalty. Fletcher was convicted May 25 of killing Helen Key Googe, 66. Fletcher and Doni Brown escaped from the jail April 15, 2009. Googe's body was found hours after the breakout. They went to Googe's home to rob her of money, but Googe had only $37, prosecutors said. They said the defendants then beat and strangled her.
