Circuit Judge Dedee Costello sentenced Matthew Caylor to death for killing Melinda Hinson, 13, in July 2008. A Bay County jury had recommended the death penalty 8-4 on Oct. 30 for Caylor, white, who was convicted for 1st-degree murder for raping and killing Hinson on July 8, 2008.
