Judge Jonathan Siostrom sentenced Elijah Brookins, 34, Black, to death. Brookins was given the death penalty in the brutal killing of a Department of Corrections inmate which occured on a DOC transport bus in September of 2011. A Gadsden County jury on December 11, 2013, recommended a death sentence by a vote of 10 to 2. Sexton was stabbed with a homemade prison shank.
