Judge Mallory Cooper sentenced Cecil King, 41, black, to death in the Dec. 28 or Dec. 29, 2009 slaying of Renie Telzer-Bain, an 82-year-old woman who was beaten with a hammer during a robbery in her home. A jury voted 8-4 on April 14 (see) in favor of the death penalty in a recommendation made to Judge Mallory Cooper.
