USA - Florida. Judge Mark A. Nacke formally sentenced Donald Otis Williams to death

Judge Mark A. Nacke formally sentenced Donald Otis Williams, 53, White, to death. A Lake County jury recommended death on Sept. 4, 2013 (see). The same jury convicted Williams of the October, 2010 raping and killing of Janet Patrick, 81, White. Williams claimed he was insane at the time of the killing. Williams was caught on surveillance video leaving a supermarket parking lot on Oct. 18, 2010 with Janet Patrick, who he had just met. About a week later, police found Patrick's body in Poinciana woods. The victim in a similar 2000 case for which Williams previously served prison time was one of the witnesses who testified this week as the jury weighed his potential punishment. Williams was convicted in the abduction and kidnapping of the woman, then 21, from a drugstore parking lot. That victim had her clothes torn and was raped before a witness interrupted the attack, according to an investigative report. (see also Sept. 4, 2013).
