The Florida Supreme Court ordered new capital sentencing hearing for Roderick Orme, 55, White, ruling that his death sentence was unconstitutional under the Court's 2016 decision in Hurst v. State. A Judge had sentenced the defendant to death after a non-unanimous sentencing vote by a jury. Five jurors had recommended that Orme be sentenced to life. Orme was convicted and sentenced in 1993 for the 1992 robbery, rape and strangulation of Lisa Redd. A re-sentencing jury recommended death for Orme 11-1 in July of 2007.
