The Florida Supreme Court overturned the death sentence imposed by the trial court on James Belcher after a nonunanimous (9-3) sentencing recommendation by the jury. Belcher, 58, Black, was sentenced to death on May 17, 2001 (see) in the January 8, 1996 rape and murder of Jennifer Embry.
