USA - Florida. The Florida Supreme Court threw out the death sentence for Donte Hall because it was not unanimous

The Florida Supreme Court threw out the death sentence for Donte Hall, 32, Black, and sent his case back to the Lake County courthouse for a new sentencing hearing, citing the state’s high court decision from last year that a jury’s death-penalty recommendation had to be unanimous. The Lake County jury in Hall’s 2009 sentencing (see April 22, 2009) hearing voted 8-4 in favor of death. According to testimony, Angel Glenn, Hall’s girlfriend, was hired as a stripper to perform at the Sept. 9, 2006 party. She alerted Hall about the party. Hall and his twin brother Dante Hall, along with two other masked men burst into the party, robbed the partygoers and opened fire on those they believed were being reluctant in giving up their money. Donte, considered the ring leader, shot Anthony Blunt, 35, and Kison Evans, 32. Dante Hall was sentenced to life without parole in 2009. Glenn, who testified against the brothers, was given 10 years. The two other intruders were never identified.
