The Florida Supreme Court vacated the death sentence for Victor Guzman because it was not unanimous. On February 4, 2013 a Miami-Dade County jury voted 7-5 to recommend the death sentence for Guzman, 44, Hispanic, for the December 2000 slaying of 80-year-old Severina Dolores Fernandez. Judge Dennis Murphy upheld the sentence on April 25, 2013.
