The Georgia Supreme Court today reinstated a death sentence for Scotty Garnell Morrow, 44, black. Morrow was given a death sentence in 1999 for killing his ex-girlfriend Barbara Ann Young and her friend, Tonya Woods on Dec. 29, 1994. Morrow confessed to the shooting spree. A lower court this year threw out the sentence, finding that Morrow was denied effective legal help during the sentencing phase of his trial. The high court disagreed, and said in its unanimous decision released today that Morrow's lawyers performed adequately.
