A St. Tammany Parish jury unanimously sentenced James "Jamie" Magee to death for the 2007 killings of his estranged wife and 5-year-old son, after a verdict by a jury. The same jury Saturday convicted Magee, 32, of the shooting deaths of his wife, Adrienne, 28, and their 5-year-old son, Zach, on April 18, 2007. He also was convicted of attempting to kill their other children, daughters Ashleigh, then 8, and Aleisha, then 7. Before the trial Magee was willing to plead guilty in exchange for life in prison, but St. Tammany District Attorney Walter Reed did not accept the plea offer, instead wanting to continue pursuing the death penalty against him. Judge William "Rusty" Knight has not given a sentencing date yet.
