Judge Jerome M. Winsberg formally sentenced Jeffrey Clark, 50, white, to death, following a May 16 (see) jury’s recommendation. Clark was convicted of first-degree murder in the death of Capt. David Knapps during an escape attempt from the Louisiana State Penitentiary on Dec. 28, 1999.
