U.S. District Judge Tom Lee ruled James Billiot's death sentence should be suspended and he should be transferred to the State Hospital at Whitfield within 60 days of the order. "Failure to do so will result in the issuance of a writ for Billiot's immediate release," Lee said in his order. Billiot was sentenced to death in 1982 for the Thanksgiving Day 1981 bludgeoning death of his stepfather, Wallace Croll, 53, his mother, Audrey Croll, 47; and his 14-year-old stepsister, Cheryl Ann Croll.
