A proposal to abolish death penalty has failed. The House Judiciary Committee voted against SB185 that would have abolished the death penalty. Senate Bill 185, sponsored by democrat Senator David Wanzenried, had passed the Senate on February 14, 2011 (see). It is second time in three years that the bill to repeal the death penalty and replace it with life in prison made it through the Senate but didn’t get by the state’s judiciary committee, which voted today to shelve the bill. "I can’t honestly say I’m surprised but I can say I’m very, very disappointed again that we moved it as far as we did and we’ve come up short the second session in a row," said Senator Dave Wanzenried, who sponsored the bill.
