The House Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee voted 14-2 to pass HB 147 that would expand the death penalty law to include murder committed during home invasions. House Speaker William O’Brien is the prime sponsor of HB 147. The capital murder statute now covers the murders of police officers, judges and court personnel, or killings committed during rapes, kidnappings or a major drug transaction. (see also Jan. 7, 2011).
