A bill abolishing the death penalty got the go-ahead from the House Judiciary Committee today on a vote of 8-5. The bill replaces capital punishment with a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. It's expected to be voted on by the full House by next week. The House has passed it twice before, but each time it failed in the Senate.
