Governor Kasich Stayes Execution of Brett Hartman, 37, white, scheduled for August 16. Brett Hartman was scheduled to be executed tomorrow, but had his execution stayed until November 13, 2012. The stay was issued by Governor John Kasich after a federal judge (U.S. District Court Judge Gregory Frost) called Ohio’s execution procedure haphazard (see JULY 8, 2011).  The Federal Judge learned that Ohio was not following the execution protocol that was submitted to the Federal court. The violation was not having adequate staff present to conduct an execution. Hartman was sentenced to death for killing Wanda Snipes, 46, on Sept. 9, 1997.
