The Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals has overturned the conviction and death sentence of Randal Ray Hunt. The appeals court ruling, released today, ordered a new trial for Hunt, who was found guilty of 1st-degree murder for the Feb. 14, 2004, killing of his girlfriend Wynona Reames. During his 2006 trial, Hunt testified that he stabbed Reames but never intended to kill her. On appeal, Hunt's attorneys argued that his Sixth Amendment rights under the U.S. Constitution were violated because of the admission of an audio recording of a 911 call Reames made to police in December 2003.
