Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge Jeffrey A. Manning formally sentenced Richard Poplawski to death. A jury sentenced Poplawski to death on June 28 (see). Poplawski was convicted of killing Eric Kelly, Paul Sciullo and Stephen Mayhle on April 4, 2009 as the officers responded to a domestic dispute at Poplawski's mother's. Two other officers were also injured that day.
