Williams, now 59, A jury convicted Williams, now 59, in 1985 of shooting and robbing Edward Miller, 22, in 1983. He was sentenced to death. In 2003, a judge upheld the conviction, but granted Williams a retrial for the death penalty. That was upheld last year, and now prosecutors decided to drop pursuit of the death penalty.
