Shonda Walter, 37, Black, has been resentenced to life without parole. Her petition for review of her Pennsylvania death sentence by the U.S. Supreme Court was touted as one of the cases that could bring the continued constitutionality of the death penalty before the Court. Prosecutors agreed to the resentencing in exchange for Walter's agreement to drop her challenges to the constitutionality of her conviction. Walter was the last woman with an active death sentence on Pennsylvania's death row. A Clinton County jury sentenced Walter to death in April 2005 after finding Walter guilty of the 2003 murder of James Sementelli, 83.
