Thomas Treshawn Ivey, 34, black, was executed. He had been sentenced to death in 1995 for killing Robert Montgomery on January 13, 1993, and police sergeant Tommy Harrison, 38, two days later. Ivey was convicted and sentenced to death for both murders, but today's execution was only for Harrison's death. Ivey becomes the 2nd condemned inmate to be put to death this year in South Carolina and the 42nd overall since the state resumed capital punishment in 1985. Ivey becomes the 25th condemned inmate to be put to death this year in the USA and the 1161st overall since the nation resumed executions on January 17, 1977.
