USA - Texas. A jury sentenced Willie Roy Jenkins, 59, Black, to death

A Hays County jury sentenced Willie Roy Jenkins, 59, Black, to death, the 1st death sentence handed down in more than 20 years in Hays County. Jenkins was convicted on May 31 in the Nov. 24, 1975 rape and killing of 20-year-old Sheryl Norris. Jenkins was indicted in November 2010 for the murder after DNA evidence linked him to the case. Attorneys for the prosecution argued that Jenkins is a continuing threat to society because of his convictions in 4 rapes in California and Texas that occurred before and after Norris's rape and murder.
