Mario Swain, 33, black, was executed for a woman's slaying during a break-in at her home. Swain received a death sentence on Nov. 21, 2003 (see) for killing Lola Nixon, 46, at her home two days after Christmas in 2002. Swain becomes the 13th inmate to be put to death this year in Texas, the 490th overall since the state resumed capital punishmen on december 7, 1982, the 37th to be put to death this year in the USA and the 1314th overall since the nation resumed executions on January 17, 1977.
