Mark Issac Snarr and Edgar Balthazar Garcia were sentenced to death by a federal jury in Beaumont, Texas. Snarr, 34, and Garcia, 30, repeatedly stabbed Gabriel Rhone, 31, outside his cell, located in the prison's maximum-security Special Housing Unit. Both claimed they killed Rhone out of imminent fear for their lives because he threatened them. The men also attacked 2 prison guards during the Nov. 28, 2007, murder in an attempt to snag keys to Rhone's cell. The federal jury had convicted the 2 on May 7.
