the United Nations human rights committee addressed Uzbekistan's government in order to receive clarifications regarding the case of Akhrorkhuzha Tolipkhuzhayev, an Uzbeki who was secretly executed on March 1. Information regarding the execution had reached the UN committee on April 7. Christine Chanet, committee chief, forwarded a written message to Uzbekistan's Foreign Ministry on April 13, to express her "extreme alarm" regarding the information that Tolipkhuzhayev had been put to death in secret. Uzbekistan's court martial reportedly sentenced Tolipkhuzhayev to death on February 19, 2004.
