the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Court in Vietnam sentenced two people to death for buying and selling nearly 1.7 kilograms of heroin in 2005. Dang Thi Nguyet, 58, and Nguyen Van Lap, 32, received the death sentence while Nguyet’s two sons, Nguyen Tan Thanh and Nguyen Tan Thien, got life imprisonment. Another member of the ring, Tran Van Loi, received a 20-year sentence. Another son of Nguyet, Nguyen Tan Thuan, who was also involved, died from disease during detainment. According to the court, Nguyet and her sons bought the drugs from Loi and Lap to sell at her restaurant on Cong Quynh Street in District 1 between 2004 and 2005.
