Yabluko party deputies in the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada (parliament) Mykhailo Brodsky, Viktor Chaika, and Yuri Sakhno submitted a bill to amend the Ukrainian Criminal Code to partially restore the application of the death penalty in the country.
"The death penalty as a method of social protection should be applied in Ukraine in exceptional cases, such as acts of terrorism or other premeditated especially dangerous actions resulting in human deaths," reads the document.
However this measure should not apply to persons committing crimes under 18 years old, to women with underage children or who are pregnant at the moment of sentencing.
What prompted Yabluko to raise the issue of restoring the death penalty is the increase of serious crimes committed in Ukraine, as well as the recent world events, which "dramatically show that a tide of global terrorism is about to cover the world," the party's press service said.
