Yasir Abu-Shinnar, who was convicted of the 1994 killing of a Jordanian diplomat in Beirut by the State Security Court, was executed at Swaqa prison at dawn, official sources said.
Abu-Shinnar, 37, made no requests as he was being escorted to the gallows, said a judicial source who attended the execution.
"He did not say anything or ask for anything," the source told The Jordan Times.
Abu-Shinnar was sentenced to death by the State Security Court in December 2001 for plotting the assassination of Nayib Maytah, first secretary at the Jordanian embassy in Lebanon on 29 January 1994 with the help of accomplices.
He was also charged with belonging to an illegal organization.
Abu-Shinnar denied the murder charges during his trial at the State Security Court stating that "he had no connection whatsoever to the killing of Maytah."
But he did confess to being a member of the Fatah Revolutionary Command (FRC), headed by outlawed renegade Sabri Banna, alias Abu-Nidal.
Jordan considers the FRC - which broke away from the mainstream PLO faction led by Palestinian President Yasir Arafat - a "terrorist" group.
Abu-Shinnar was extradited from Lebanon to Jordan in March 2001.
The Abu-Nidal group is accused of assassinating and kidnapping several Jordanian diplomats in the 1980s and early 1990s, particularly in Lebanon in the throes of its 1975-1990 civil war.
Abu Shinnar's four accomplices, who were sentenced to death in absentia, are Banna, Iqab Nimr, Ihsan Sadiq, and Jamal Fatayah. The latter is currently being retried at the State Security Court after extradition from Libya in January.
This execution brings the total number of people put to death since the beginning of 2002 to 13.
